News Flash! SP2 Sucks Donkey.

News Flash! SP2 Sucks Donkey.
(ED: Due To The graphic nature of this post and the fact that writers parents can see me, all curses and hexes will be changed to the word "Donkey" )

So i figured everyone else is doing it why not me? “It makes you more secure, like your on top of the world,” they said. Well i have news for you kiddies... Don't SP2.
First it seemed everything was working the install took forever but hey its big it'll take awhile. Then it installs. The lifespan of dustbunnies passes before my eyes. Then It reboots. And loads. And Reboots. And Loads. And Reboots. And loads. And Reboots. And Loads. And Reboots. And loads. And Reboots. And Loads. And Reboots.

It would do the XP loading thing with the lame loading bar. Then the screen would turn off for a couple of seconds like it wasn't receiving any signals. Then I'd get a Bluescreen with a Donkey load of text. This would only stay up for a whopping 1 second. Then it would reboot.
Rinse, Wash, Repeat.
After the third time I started to get A tad bit worried. So i look up tech support for microsoft but they go home at 7 or 9 the slackers... Well bugger that so i look for alienware techsupport. They're 24 hours. So i call them and get a guy who sounds likes he's whispering into the phone from 5 ft away. He says he can't help me unless I pay him 130 dollars for extended warranty. He is able to recommend that i boot in safe mode. (which i didn't know you could do by hitting f8 when it does the system specs)
So I boot in safe mode and restore to the point i made in case something like this happened. That takes forever but it restores and everythings happy in the SP2less computer land.

Thats my story and hopefully by sharing I can keep you off SP2.

Thankyou

MP3 Player musings

I have the worst luck with cables. Video, Ethernet, headphones, the first two always seem to break their tiny necks even though I treat more gently than my cat. Then the headphone cables knot up with only half a foot of slack...

So I've been looking at this thing...
Looks Spiffy, no? The picture support and FM radio are pretty cool, not to mention the voice recorder. The only problem is the size. Its approximately the same size as my zen xtra. Of course the only way I'll upgrade to a new player is when they start giving them Bluetooth support for headphones, or some other shortrange. Something the size of an ipod would be nice.
So basically all the iriver features, ipod size, Bluetooth support, and a removable li-ion battery. It would also be nice if it gets a lot of 3rd party support.

The closest thing I can find close to market would be the Treo 650. Only problem is that would need a SD card which ups the price but you can get the 1gb for cheap at www.costco.com . $50 cheaper than anybody else for a sandisk SD.
That and the Treo gets a lot of 3rd party support and its a PDA/cellphone. With all that combined it's still pretty light, and it can play Freecell.

MusicMatch = Arg...

So I finally got around to ripping this "Living Language Learn Japanese" 3 CD thing and I found it highly amusing what MusicMatch Thought it was...

War Dance Songs of the Ponca, Vol. 1

Now I laughed and went and clicked Submit CD Info and typed in all the correct stuff. I clicked submit and it said thankyou and it appeared on the now playing as LL. I then hit the record button to bring up the ripping menu and it changes everything back to War Dance Songs of the Ponca, Vol. 1. What is up with that?

Christmas Stuff and music

So I went to the Tacoma Dome for the Christmas Thing. They had a bunch of cool things and the soup bread bowl place had excellent blackberry smoothies...
Anywho one thing that I got that is pretty cool is this C.D. by David Templeton. I got the C.D. Change which is pretty good and I'd recommend checking it out. He also has a concert on the 2nd of December which I might go to. He'll be releasing his new album then also. Did I mention I also got My case autographed? Cause I did.

That seems to be one thing I'm into now. Getting music from other sources than Wal-Mart or Best-Buy. The CD's are Cheaper but still have the same quality. Not to mention it adds a certain "Cool" factor that your not listening to the same thing as Joe Blow.

I'm pretty sure I already mentioned Sub-Motive.

Then there's Leland Dent who has apparently never submitted his site to google... Great Piano music by the way.

There's a couple other ones also but I need to find their websites before I start talking bout them.

P.S. I'll be out till Sunday Night again.

This thing is so cool...

My trip...

I just got back from California a couple hours ago, visiting relatives and whatnot.
On Friday and Saturday the view distance was equivalent to Turok for the N64. I'm not talking bout fog though, I'm talking about smoke. Thick bad smelling smoke. From forest fires not from smog luckily.
Anywho when we were down there we went to some of the apple fairs and bought stuff and ate a bunch of sweets. I galso got to check out a Sam's Club... It is a complete and utter Costco ripoff, except they have really bad pizza, and they sell ram, and their electronics section is bigger. Otherwise its the same. No anime at either one though...

Speaking of anime I got the new ROD TV VOL 2 DVD on Friday but I haven't had a player to watch it on till we got back tonight.
My thoughts...

Needs more Nenene.
Needs more Plot.

I mentioned this before but I really like the English Voice actor for Nenene (Wendy Tomson) and I really hate the voice actor for Hishami (name). Actually hate isn't the right word. I just don't like that they gave the character a voice that high and squeaky.
But enough whining about the voice since they already recorded the entire dub already anyway.
To be honest my two points at the top sums it up. Granted you find out that they are contracted to work with the Chinese government and a bunch of secret books were stolen from the British library. But nothing develops out of it in the four episodes on this DVD. It'll probably start picking up steam in the 3rd or 4th Disc.
I also bought The new trigun manga which I haven't read yet and the AzumangaDaioh Vol 2 which is more of the same. (thats a good thing)

Anywho thats all for today and I apologize for being a day late.

blogs blogs lots of blogs

So I made second blog over at 1up.com

In other news the TiVo is finally up. It's cool. Recommended Trigun and Bosom Buddies after only 3 1ups...
Otherwise its just a PVR that lies like the rest of them. We bought an "80 Hour" one but apparently you only get 80 hours of recording time if you set it to a craptacular resolution. So they lie like any other business. Nothin Special, movin on...

Sorta funny. We moved to a house smaller than the one before. But the animals got bigger toys (cept the dog he's sorta miffed about that). The turtle upgraded to a 200 gallon tank if I remember correctly and the cat got a 6ft purple obelisk. I'll post a picture of that at some point.

Tis all for now
Blue Nile

P.s. ten points and a link if anybody can figure out where I got the name from.
Hint: Its not from the diamond store.

P.P.S For some reason spellcheck isn't noticing uncapitalized i's anymore weird. But they also said blog wasn't a word so what do you expect?

dang

something glitched and took out my post. Nothing really interesting in it though...

So I'm sitting here. Bored. Can't find any sites to read. All my bookmarks are on another computer. Slashdot isn't updated at the moment, or gizmodo, engadget, and gamespy. Stumble isn't bringing up any websites with any "meat".

For some reason I don't feel like playing the sims at the moment either.
Though now that i started writing this post I don't feel so bored, so luckily for you I'll keep typing.

The Internet Super Highway

I just loved this quote on Slashdot...

"Think of the Internet as a Highway." There it is again. Some clueless fool talking about the "Information Superhighway." They don't know didley about the net. It's nothing like a superhighway. That's a rotten metaphor. Suppose the metaphor ran in the other direction. Suppose the highways were like the net. . . A highway hundreds of lanes wide. Most with pitfalls for potholes. Privately operated bridges and overpasses. No highway patrol. A couple of rent-a-cops on bicycles with broken whistles. 500 member vigilante posses with nuclear weapons. A minimum of 237 on ramps at every intersection. No signs. Wanna get to Ensenada? Holler out the window at a passing truck to ask directions. Ad hoc traffic laws. Some lanes would vote to make use by a single-occupant- vehicle a capital offense on Monday through Friday between 7:00 and 9:00. Other lanes would just shoot you without a trial for talking on a car phone. AOL would be a giant diesel-smoking bus with hundreds of ebola victims on board throwing dead wombats and rotten cabbage at the other cars, most of which have been assembled at home from kits. Some are built around 2.5 horsepower lawnmower engines with a top speed of nine miles an hour. Others burn nitrogylcerin and idle at 120. No license plates. World War II bomber nose art instead. Terrifying paintings of huge teeth or vampire eagles. Bumper mounted machine guns. Flip somebody the bird on this highway and get a white phosphorus grenade up your tailpipe. Flatbed trucks cruise around with anti-aircraft missile batteries to shoot down the traffic helicopter. Little kids on tricycles with squirtguns filled with hydrochloric acid switch lanes without warning. NO OFFRAMPS. None. Now that's the way to run an Interstate Highway system.

10/8/04

So I haven't posted in awhile... Combination of “The Sims 2” and moving to bellvue.
Sims 2. Same As First. Better Graphics. If you liked the first you'll like this one. Thats all I'm going to say about it. That and Roosterteeth is making their next series using the engine.

R.O.D. TV Vol. 2 appears to be out. You might remember I raved about Vol 1. I'm going to buy it in a week or two when Suncoast goes to triple points sale on the weekend of the 16th.

I downloaded OpenOffice.Org before we left and I like it a lot right now. The auto spell checker is pretty useful to. As it happens I'm righting this post from it right now. Anywho it looks a lot like Microsoft Wordpad and also can do Microsoft Excel files (.xls) among other files.

In other news I bought Battlefield 1942 a couple weeks ago. Its also really fun.

Music wise I've been listening to the Sub-Motive CD and a bunch of Anime music I found on the net. “Losing myself” By “Day After Tomorrow” is pretty good. I recommend finding the song. AllOfMP3 had some Monty Python records so I downloaded those. I am now a Monty Python Fan.
“Raivin of the Beaches” had three songs on download.com. I plan seeing if I can find anymore at some time in the future.

My P.C. has seemed a bit sluggish on loading stuff. Mostly on startup and loading programs. It started when I installed Norton Antivirus on it. I'm pretty sure thats the biggest culprit. I haven't installed XP service pack 2 and i don't really plan to, mostly because of what I've read about it on slashdot and other computer magazines. I do have Zone Alarm Installed so I have a firewall on. Firefox is also my browser of choice so I don't have to worry about the activex hacks that are popular with IE.
Back to the point though I plan to clean out my registry and defrag my hardrive when I get some time.

I've been looking into building my own computer for some time. I plan on building a 500$ Internet browsing computer. I don't know when I'll have time to do this but it will happen if not this year then sometime in 05.

I also have relatives visiting in November who are bringing their spyware infested computer with for me fix. I'm not even sure how old it is... My basic plan is to try and salvage it without wiping the drive and reinstalling everything. But I'll probably have to Nuke it anyway. Then I'll install some Open Source Goodness and firewall fun. Then they will bow down to me in amazement at my computer know how. Or something to that effect. The biggest problem is going to be educating them not to return the computer back to its Virusy state within six months.

Well that should hopefully make up for my absence.
